SUPPORT GROUPS (by date)

FREE DENTAL SCREENING CLINIC FOR SENIORS

A free dental screening for seniors will be held by Community VNA on Saturday, May 5 from 8:45 AM to 1 PM at 10 Emory Street in Attleboro. The clinic is open to anyone age 60 and over living in Massachusetts.  Dental professionals will be on hand to diagnose dental problems, check for oral cancer, discuss nutritional choices and preventive care.  They will also provide specialized denture cleaning and participants will be able to register for low-cost dental program for low-income seniors. STURDY WELCOMES NEW CARDIOLOGIST

Sturdy Cardiology Associates and Sturdy Memorial Hospital welcomes board certified cardiologist Dr. Umar Shakur to the medical staff. An experienced cardiologist from the Boston area,  Dr. Shakur is accepting new patients, working as part of Dr. DiCola’s care team.  Dr. Shakur's office can be reached by calling 508-431-3600.


REHOBOTH EMERGENCY PLANNING SEEKS HELPS

Rehoboth’s Local Emergency Planning Committee is seeking donations of oxygen concentrators for use by citizens in times of emergency.  These must be in working condition.  Please contact Jaime Conlon, RN, Rehoboth Public Health Nurse at 508-962-4558.

Blood donors are always needed.  Please donate!  You can also drop by the Raynham Blood Donation Center for walk-in donations, 275 New State Highway in Raynham, MA.  Friday, April 20 from 12 to 5 PM at Manheim New England at 123 Williams Street in Dighton.  Friday, April 20 from 2 to 7 PM at the Attleboro YMCA at 63 North Main Street in Attleboro. Saturday, April 21 from 9 AM to 2 PM at Second Congregational Church at 50 Park Street in Attleboro.  Friday, April 27 from 12 to 5 PM at Bristol County Agricultural High School at 135 Center Street in Dighton. Friday, April 27 from 1 to 6 PM at the Swansea Mall, 262 Swansea Mall Drive in Swansea, MA.  Monday, April 30 from1 to 6 PM at Murray Unitarian Universalist Church at 505 North Main Street in Attleboro, MA. PUBLIC CPR AND AED CERTIFICATION CLASS

If you would like to learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to help save lives, Rehoboth Ambulance Committee  provides training to the residents of the town through training provider, Safety Program Consultants, Inc.  Upcoming classes at Blanding Library/Goff Memorial Hall are scheduled for April 19, May 17, and June 21. Although the value of the CPR class is $50, any donation to the Rehoboth Ambulance Committee will be welcomed. To register for any of the class dates, please call Bonnie 508-252-3049.


 

BREATHING CLUB

Upcoming Meeting:  Tuesday, April 24 from 1 to 3 PM in the Sturdy Memorial Hospital auditorium. This support group for people breathing difficulties and pulmonary ailments. Meetings are facilitated by a respiratory therapist. Call the Respiratory Care Dept. at Sturdy for more information at 508-236-7550.


LYME DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

The Bristol County Lyme Disease Support Group meets on Thursday, April 26 from 6 to 8 PM at Goff Memorial Hall. The group provides support and networking opportunities to individuals affected directly and indirectly by Lyme and associated tick borne diseases. All interested are welcome. BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

Upcoming Meeting: Wednesday, April 25 from 6 to 7:30 PM at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Conference Rooms D & E. This support group for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer, as well as survivors, family members and friends. No registration required. DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

Upcoming Meeting: Wednesday, April 25 from 7 to 8:30 PM in the auditorium at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. This group is for those with diabetes, their family members and friends. No registration needed. For more info, call the Wellness Center at 508-236-7497.


CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP

ALZHEIMER’S AND RELATED DEMENTIAS

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP

For caregivers facing the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia.  Facilitated by Joyce Colletto, RN, a specially trained dementia nurse.  Free and open to the community. PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

Upcoming Meeting:  Wednesday, May 9 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Community VNA, 10 Emory Street in Attleboro. This support group features speakers, mutual support, and camaraderie with some humor thrown in! People with Parkinson’s, family members, and friends are welcome to attend, even if a loved one who lives at a distance.  For more info, contact Gretchen Robinson at 508-226-2910 to discuss individual issues in full confidence. The group is affiliated with the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.


CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
