CAREGIVER CONSERVATIONS SUPPORT

Harmony Adult Day Health Center in Taunton offers Caregiver Conversations, a monthly caregiver support group on Thursday, October 26 from 10 to 11 AM.  This monthly support group is free and open to caregivers of all ages. CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP

For caregivers facing the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia.  Facilitated by Joyce Colletto, RN, a specially trained dementia nurse.  Free and open to the community. PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

Upcoming Meeting:  Wednesday, November 8 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Community VNA, 10 Emory Street in Attleboro.  The group features speakers, mutual support, and camaraderie with some humor thrown in! The group is affiliated with the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.


LYME DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

The Bristol County Lyme Disease Support Group meets on Thursday, November 9 from 6 to 8 PM at Goff Memorial Hall. The group provides support and networking opportunities to individuals affected directly and indirectly by Lyme and associated tick borne diseases. All interested are welcome. ALZHEIMER’S PARTNERSHIP HOSTS FREE FORUM FOR CAREGIVERS

The Neponset Valley Alzheimer's Partnership, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter will offer caregivers a free forum on Thursday, October 26 beginning at 8:30 AM at the Norwood Council on Aging, 275 Prospect Street in Norwood.  The all-day forum will feature speakers throughout the day covering various topics including caregiver stress, fatigue and guidance on self-care. An afternoon session includes a Caregiver Panel discussion followed by lunch, and the opportunity to meet local service providers.

Family caregivers are welcome to attend free of charge, and health care professionals may attend for a fee of $30. Continuing education credits are available for nurses and social workers. For more infor or to register, contact  Su Madan at smadan@comforcare.com.


RIBBON CUTTING TO OPEN STURDY’S NEW MEDICAL BUILDING

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 10 to open Sturdy Memorial Associates medical offices and Urgent Care located at 60 Messenger Street in Plainville, MA. The project began over a year ago with a vision to bring together two established Sturdy Memorial Associates, Plainville Family Practice and The Foxboro Center for Women’s & Family Health. At the new location, patients have access to Family and Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dermatology, Urology, and Urgent Care. “We are thrilled to offer a suite of comprehensive medical services in this beautiful, state-of-the-art building,” says Bruce Auerbach, MD, President and CEO of Sturdy Memorial Hospital.


NEW ENGLAND’S LARGEST HOLISTIC HEALTH & WELLNESS EVENT

The 11th Annual Natural Living Expo will return to Marlborough’s Best Western Royal Plaza and Trade Center on November 11 and 12 with over 275 exhibitors, 90 workshops, shopping and keynote speakers.  The two-day event is presented by Spirit of Change, NE’s largest holistic magazine. Event admission is $12 per person in advance online ($15 at the door) including access to the exhibition hall and workshops. Children under 12 years of age will be admitted free of charge. STURDY MEMORIAL ASSOCIATES WELCOMES NEW FAMILY PHYSICIAN

Family Medicine physician Dr. Hannah Melnitsky has joined Sturdy Memorial’s new medical practice Sturdy Memorial Associates at Plainville, located at 60 Messenger Street in Plainville. Dr. Melnitsky provides comprehensive health care for both male and female patients of all ages. She received her medical degree from University of Massachusetts Medical School - Worcester, and completed her residency and fellowship training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Family Medicine and Maternal Fetal Health. MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS) WELLNESS AND VENDOR FAIR

Join Sturdy Hospital’s MS Center for a special event featuring inspirational speaker Kristie Salerno Kent, author of DREAMS: My Journey with Multiple Sclerosis at 11 AM on Saturday, October 21.  The fair will happen in the hospital auditorium from 9 AM to 12 Noon. FREE DENTAL SCREENING FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

Community VNA’s Elder Dental Program will offer a free dental screening clinic on Saturday, October 21 from 8:45 AM to 1 PM at the Walpole Council on Aging.  Rehoboth senior citizens over age 60 are welcome and encouraged to participate. Dental professionals will diagnose dental problems, check for oral cancer, discuss nutrition, provide specialized denture cleanings, and talk about taking care of teeth, gums, and dentures.  You can also sign-up for a low-cost dental program for low-income seniors. STURDY HOSPITAL OFFERS MAMMOGRAMS IN THE MOONLIGHT

Sturdy Memorial Hospital will offer “Mammograms in the Moonlight” on Monday, October 23 from 5 to 8 PM.  This event provides after-hours digital mammograms and refreshments! Take time for yourself, invite a family member or friend to join you and scratch your annual mammogram off of your to do list. Kenneth Kaplan, MD, board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Asma Latif, MD, board certified in Hematology and Oncology, specializing in women’s cancers, will be available to provide education and answer any questions related to screenings and early detection. PUBLIC FLU VACCINE CLINICS AT GLADYS L. HURRELL SENIOR CENTER

Get your flu shot! The Rehoboth Council on Aging and Anawan Pharmacy will conduct a Flu Vaccine Clinic for anyone age nine years and up on Wednesday, November 8 from 8:30 to 11 AM.  If you can’t make either clinic, Anawan Pharmacy offers flu vaccinations during regular business hours at 224 Winthrop Street. OB-GYN PHYSICIAN

The Sturdy Memorial Hospital family recently welcomed Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Deborah Hayden to the staff, practicing from the Foxboro Center for Women’s & Family Health, soon to relocate to Sturdy’s new medical building at 60 Messenger Street in Plainville. Dr. Hayden provides women’s health care, including routine testing and treatment, as well as reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. A graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Hayden is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology.  Dr. Hayden is now accepting new patients, call 508-698-0011 to schedule an appointment.
