CAREGIVER CONSERVATIONS SUPPORT

Harmony Adult Day Health Center in Taunton offers Caregiver Conversations, a monthly caregiver support group on Thursday, August 24 from 10 to 11 AM.  This monthly support group is free and open to caregivers of all ages. Meetings and guest speakers address topics that help people become more confident as caregivers. Pre-registration is required. PARKINSON’S DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

Upcoming Meeting:  Wednesday, September 13 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Community VNA, 10 Emory Street in Attleboro.  The group features speakers, mutual support, and camaraderie with some humor thrown in! The group is affiliated with the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.


LYME DISEASE SUPPORT GROUP

The Bristol County Lyme Disease Support Group meets on Thursday, September 14 from 6 to 8 PM at Goff Memorial Hall. LEARN ABOUT APP FOR ALZHEIMER CAREGIVERS

“There’s an App for That – Using Technology in Alzheimer’s Caregiving”  will be the topic of discussion on Tuesday, August 29 from 10 to 11:45 AM at Norwood Adult Day Health Center located at 595 Pleasant Street in Norwood.  The center’s caregiver support group meets on the last Tuesday of each month and is free and open to caregivers of all ages.  The group offers topics to help people become more confident as caregivers. The staff can also care for your loved one, giving them an opportunity to be with their peers, while you are in the group. Pre-registration is required for this care. CAREGIVERS: LEAN MORE ABOUT RESERVE MORTGAGES

Michael Kennedy, a Reverse Mortgage Specialist with iReverse Home Loans, LLC, will be the guest speaker for Caregiver Conversations at Harmony Adult Day Health Center in Taunton on Thursday, August 31 from 10 to 11 AM at the center, 725A Myles Standish Boulevard in Taunton.  He will discuss options for seniors who own a home and may need some more funding for their care and a better quality of life. Caregiver Conversations is free and open to caregivers of all ages.  Harmony Adult Day Health Center is a program of Attleboro-based Community VNA that serves residents of Rehoboth with a variety of home care and health services including hospice. Pre-registration is required, so please call 508-880-3000.  Harmony Adult Day Health Center serves frail elders, seniors with medical needs and disabled adults who require support throughout the day. The compassionate and professional staff provides quality medical care, support services and socializing activities in a secure, nurturing setting. The center’s goal is to help participants enhance and maintain their health, daily living skills and social connections.


STURDY HOSPITAL WELCOMES NEW OPTOMETRIST

Medical Optometrist Dr. Maria Denietolis has joined Sturdy Eye Associates, located at 160 Pleasant Street in Attleboro. A graduate of the  New England College of Optometry, Dr. Denietolis completed her residency in ocular disease and primary care. She joins the expert physicians and medical professionals at Sturdy Eye Associates to provide comprehensive vision care to the local community. AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION CPR AND AED CERTIFICATION CLASS

Safety Program Consultants and the Rehoboth Ambulance Committee offer an American Heart Association certification class in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on Thursday, September 21 from 5 to 8 PM at Goff Memorial Hall. MORTON HOSPITAL WELCOMES TWO NEW SURGEONS TO STAFF

Morton Hospital has welcomed two new board certified general surgeons to the medical staff.  Dr. Patricia Andrade and Dr. Richard Demopoulos are accepting new patients at their offices in Taunton and Middleboro. A graduate of Brown University School of Medicine, Dr. Andrade completed her residency training in general surgery at Rhode Island Hospital. She has a special interest in breast surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Demopoulos, a graduate of Cornell University Medical College, completed his residency training in general surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center – Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York.  He has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery, including colon, biliary, intestinal and hernia surgery; breast and soft tissue surgery; and skin cancer. USE SNAP BENEFITS AT LOCAL FARMS FOR FRESH PRODUCE

The Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) allows SNAP recipients to make purchases at local farms, now through March 21, 2020.  Use SNAP dollars to buy farm-fresh produce at authorized HIP dealers including the following farms in Rehoboth:  The Farmer’s Garden, Souza Family Farm, Rainbow Turkey Farm, Oakdale Farms, Homestead Farm, Great Meadow Hill Farm, Dufort Farms, Clear Run Farms, Fine Farm’s Corn Crib, and Pearson’s Christmas Tree Farm.   Other nearby farms that accept SNAP include: Araujo Farms and Greenhouse in Dighton, Simcock Farm and Moolight Rose Alpacas in Swansea, Four Town Farm in Seekonk, Fine Farms in Attleboro, Chamberlain Farm Stand in Berkley, and Davella Farm in North Attleboro.


FREE GROUP FOR NEW MOMS AT STURDY MEMORIAL

Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro offers an ongoing group for New Moms with babies between two weeks and 12 months. Participants may join at any time. HEALTHY STEPS FOR CANCER PATIENTS

This exercise and movement program for cancer patients is a six-week therapeutic  program held on Mondays from 2:30 to 3:30 PM and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. The program combines gentle movements, dance and music to improve overall wellness, range of motion, balance, strength, and endurance, as well as emotional wellbeing and self-image.  Taught by a certified Lebed Method instructor.  Registration is required.  Call the Oncology Dept. at 508-236-7010.


STRENGTH TRAINING AFTER BREAST CANCER (STRENGTH ABC)

This fee-based program is offered on the first Monday of the month from 2 to 3 PM in the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Center.  Led by Certified Lymphedema Therapist Nancy Hardy and Exercise Program Coordinator Sherri-Lee Cahill, this gradual weight training program is designed for all breast cancer survivors.Cost for the program is $60.  Eligibility for the program is determined through an evaluation.  For more information, please call 508-236-7348.
