The statewide summer reading program is sponsored by the Blanding Public Library, the Mass Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Mass Board of Library Commissioners. UKULELES - 4 CHORDS and 29 SONGS

Play the ukulele with singer, songwriter and musician Julie Stepanek! Julie brings 20 ukuleles for a show and strum along. FIDDLE N’ FUN

Fiddle N’ Fun returns with a unique hands-on learning experience for children featuring music, movement, and Suzuki-style violin instruction. Ages from preschool and up are invited to attend. This preparation for learning to play violin involves using locally-made Fiddlestix, a single-stringed instrument and “bow.”  Registration is required.  Please call 508-252-4236.

MAKEY MAKEY INVENTION

Thi Sarkis, from RI Computer Museum, returns this summer with a new program to teach students how to use everyday items and the "Makey Makey" to complete an electronic circuit in order to control computer programs.  Invented by MIT grad students, the Makey Makey is a small circuit board that connects to a computer and lets you invent your own keyboard with anything that conducts electricity. Use bananas to play a virtual piano or instrument!  Use a pencil and PlayDoh to make a controller for a computer game!  Various conductive materials will be provided to get everyone started, but kids are encouraged to bring their own. Things that would conduct electricity such as fruit, green leaves, flowers, soda cans, metal bottle caps, etc.   Sponsored by The Friends of the Blanding Library, this one-hour session is for children age 8 and over.  Parents are encouraged to attend this workshop with their child to enjoy the fun. INTRO TO GAME DESIGN WITH SCRATCH

Game on!  This 1.5 hour workshop is for kids age 8 to 12 who are new to SCRATCH or have limited experience with the popular coding program developed by MIT.  SCRATCH uses drag and drop “code” blocks and is a powerful tool that lets kids create interactive stories, animation and games.  Participants will be introduced to coding concepts through focused discussions of basic game design.
